Mikro Ktima Titos
In Central Macedonia, at the foot of the Paiko mountain range near the provincial town of Goumenissa, surrounded by age-old oaks, lies Mikro Ktima Titos (meaning: Small Estate of Titos). It is here, along the banks of the river Sirios, that Titos Eftychidis planted in 1972 a 4-hectares vineyard with the varieties Xinomavro, Negoska, Cabernet Sauvignon, Limnio and Viognier.
The long friendship of Vangelis Gerovassiliou with Titos led Angeliki Eftychidis to leave the vineyard of her late husband in the hands he trusted most. The acquisition by the owners of Ktima Biblia Chora became official in 2018. Vangelis Gerovassiliou and Vassilis Tsaktsarlis got a foothold in Goumenissa, where they set out to create, with love and respect, first-class quality wines from the indigenous grape varieties of the region.
Today, the Estate is experiencing a revival. 4,5 hectares of Xinomavro and Negoska vines thrive in the privately-owned vineyard surrounding the winery that is located near the Two Rivers expanse of Goumenissa. Nearby, in Gerakonas, one of the best areas of the PDO Goumenissa zone, an additional 15,5 hectares are cultivated and in neighbouring Filiria and Pentafolos a further 7 hectares.
The vines are painstakingly cared for. They are farmed according to organic agricultural standards and tended with attention and respect for the peculiarities of each region. Most of the viticultural work is done manually, including harvesting which typically begins at the end of September.
Spurred on by the potential, the property got repurposed and renovation works on the original building were completed in 2022.
The result is an elegant and welcoming winery, fashioned in a style that fits in perfectly with the uniquely picturesque natural surroundings thanks to the use of traditional local architecture methods and earthy colours and materials.
Today’s modern winery houses fully-equipped winemaking facilities complete with its barrel vault, purposely built maturation cellar and visitors hospitality centre.
